JADE GORE

Jade Gore is a current fine art student at the University of Chester on a constant experimental path with differing mediums and subjects to discover which speaks to her and construes authentic art.
Recently she collaborated with Dina Robinson, the curator of this website as they investigated the relationship between observing a moving body and how might an artist express the dynamics of the motion in a fixed product of art. Both had their own intentions but what they found was that they had more in common than they thought and it was this aspect of affective touch which enabled the artwork to embody the dancer. The artwork you see above was Jade's final product from the investigation. Further down the page you will see some pieces curated throughout the process with some comments from Jade about her work.
In Jade's own words:
"Artists always draw from photographs that are purposely posed I.e. sitting in a chair or a selfie. Working with a dancer I had to capture the image on impulse. I couldn't depict her posture to suit my needs which made me become more experimental and work to a diverse aesthetic."
"When collaborating with Dina, everything was relaxed and had freedom, it was not fixed, it was 'real' and that is what I loved about doing the project."
"It is satisfying to see how much we rely on our bodies and to capture that in drawing wuld be so effective."
"I didn't need a perfect outfit or perfect lighting, the body was what intrigued me, seeing her bend in awkward angles and do moves I wouldn't even attempt in my own body became the intriguing need to document."
"This corresponded with my interpretation and how I used my materials by blending the forms and creating abstract shapes."
"This is why I chose to work with a dancers body, the muscle, tone and flexibility is so powerful that you could draw and paint it in almost any way. It doesn't always have to be figurative and pretty, my drawing was abstract, rough and you could see the movement which was a success and that to me is why it will look perfect."
"Every section had something different, therfore the viewer becomes fully immersed noticing something different each time and that is why I loved the project and enjoyed collaborating with a dancer whilst hoping to do it again."
